About Us

Adel War Memorial Association

The original buildings were built in 1928 from private subscriptions as a tribute and a functional memorial to those who served in the Great War.  It also comprises the associated land (donated by the Tetley family) for recreational use by local people.

It has a stunning setting with the picturesque cricket ground and pavilion adjacent to the Adel Parish Church, a grade 1 listed Norman Church build circa 1150.  Over 1,400 Members of all ages are involved in sports and social activities.

There is a fully licensed bar and lounge.  The grounds, Main Hall and numerous smaller rooms are available for hire for events organised by the general public such as weddings, funerals, celebrations, meetings, conferences and parties. Extensive free car parking and overflow carpark and catering available.

We welcome parties large and small with a capacity of up to 120 guests. We look forward to hearing from you and hosting your function.

It incorporates 11 sporting section; Archery (Bowmen of Adel), Badminton, Crown Green Bowls, Cricket (with two cricket squares), Football (Leeds City FC, with two outstanding pitches), Hockey (A Floodlit all-weather synthetic Astro Pitch –  5 Men’s & 5 Women’s also junior boys and girls’ teams), Lacrosse (Men’s & Women’s), Snooker (three tables), Squash (two courts), Tennis (3 carpet courts) and Table Tennis.

An important success of the Association has been a thriving junior section for most sports. There are currently over 500 juniors each year being coached and playing predominantly in Cricket, Tennis, Football, Archery and Hockey.

Juniors have gone onto International level in several sports including Badminton and Archery. Suzy Petty an ex junior member from the age of 8 has just got into the Great Britain Hockey Squad. Some of the juniors played sport at Adel before developing their skills elsewhere like Danny Care, the current Harlequins and England Rugby Union player.

The social sections and activities include Members’ Bar & Lounge, Drama (The acclaimed Adel Players produce 3 plays per year and a murder mystery event), Bridge, Painting, Moo Music, Tennis Tots and Walking Football.

Many sports clubs struggle to survive but we have an excellent volunteer structure and are always looking to improve. We are rightly proud of our role in the community and want to continue to provide a safe, well-coached, high-skill level for our players with excellent facilities.
